Trabzon Airport - All Information on Trabzon Airport (TZX)

Trabzon Airport or Trabzon Havalimani, commonly known by its International Air Transport Association code of TZX, is located in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey, close to the city of Trabzon.

The airport officially opened for business for the first time in 1957 and serves the city and the territories immediately surrounding it.

Over the years, it has become the base of operations for many airlines, including Germania, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines, and SunExpress, among others.

The airport also offers flights to international destinations such as Ercan, Istanbul-Atatürk, and Ankara. The majority of the airport's business is focused on internal routes.

Its Terminal 1 is utilized for flights within the country, while Terminal 2 is used for flights to other parts of the world. This airport's capacity for passenger traffic can reach up to 2 million per year despite only having a single runway.

History of Trabzon Airport

Trabzon Aerodrome first welcomed passengers in the year 1957. It was given its current status as the airport in November 1995, when the Number 503 resolution of the Directorate General board of directors gave it that designation.

In January 1985, the facility opened its doors to receive landing and takeoff traffic from any aircraft. Large-bodied aircraft can park in any one of its 14 available spaces.

Units for the Customs Directorate, the Customs Protection Directorate, the Police Directorate, the Tourism Directorate, the Finance Department, and the Airport Health Inspection Center were established simultaneously with the airport opening to international flights. Catering and ground transportation services are also put into place.

About Trabzon, Turkey

The city of Trabzon, formerly referred to in English as Trebizond, is located on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey and serves as the provincial capital of the same name. Because of its location on the ancient Silk Road, Trabzon evolved over several centuries into a melting pot of different religions, languages, and cultures.

It also served as a commercial gateway between Persia and the Caucasus region of Turkey. During the medieval period, Venetian and Genoese merchants traveled to Trabzon and sold silk, linen, and woolen cloth. These colonies served a function for Trabzon that was analogous to the role Galata played for Constantinople (modern Istanbul).

Throughout its long history, the city of Trabzon has served as the foundation for multiple states and as the capital of the Empire of Trebizond between 1204 and 1461. Because of the significance of its port during the early modern period, Trabzon once again became a focal point of trade with Persia and the Caucasus.

Before the city was established as a Greek colony, the region was ruled by Colchian (Caucasian) and Chaldean (Anatolian) tribes. Before that, it was a wilderness. It's possible that these tribes were the ones who first settled in the area around Trabzon.

It is thought that the Hayasa people inhabited the region south of Trabzon. During the 14th century B.C., they engaged in armed combat with the Central-Anatolian Hittites. In the year 756 B.C., the city, later known as Trapezius, was established by Milesian traders from Sinope, according to accounts from classical Greek documents.

Along the coast of the Black Sea, there were several Milesian trading colonies or emporia, and this one was one of them. There were roughly 10 of them. Among the others were the cities of Abydos and Cyzicus in the Dardanelles and Kerasous. Like the other Greek colonies, the city was a small enclave of Greek culture. It did not constitute an empire because the term was used by later Europeans.

At first, Trapezius owed its existence to Sinope because it was a colony. According to a silver drachma coin from Trapezus housed in the British Museum in London, it is believed that early banking (money-changing) activities took place in the city in the 4th century B.C.

Cyrus the Great incorporated the city into the Achaemenid Empire and is thought to have been the first ruler to unify the countries and territories to the east of the Black Sea into a single political entity.

When the dew point is lower, the air feels dryer, and the air feels more humid when it's higher. Even though the temperature may drop at night, a sweltering day is generally followed by a muggy night because the dew point tends to vary more slowly than the temperature.

It means that even if the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night. The perceived humidity level in Trabzon is subject to dramatic shifts throughout the year. The period of higher humidity lasts for 3 months, beginning on June 12 and ending on September 22.
